Had a long talk with a salvage diver in Norfolk last week
Been doing inspection work for 5 years now. Always thought salvage guys were reckless, just cowboy stuff. Ran into Tom at a gear shop in Norfolk. He talked me through a 90-foot wreck pull they did, how they planned every lift for 3 weeks. Made me realize there's more strategy in salvage than I gave credit for. Any of you inspection guys ever try crossing over to salvage?

Man, I can barely inspect my own gear half the time, let alone a whole wreck.

Wait, isn't it more about checking the whole situation than judging gear?

You right, holly is actually getting at something real there. Gear checks are just one part of the bigger picture but it's easy to get tunnel vision on your own stuff when you feel overwhelmed. I've been at scenes where I was so focused on my own gloves being clean that I missed a whole fuel leak hazard sitting right there. It's a lot to ask of people when they're already nervous and trying to do 17 things at once, you know? Solidarity with anyone who's ever felt like they're drowning in the details while trying to keep everyone safe.
