Overheard a guy at my LCS say he buys comics just for the covers to flip them
I was at Graham Crackers Comics in Chicago last Saturday and this dude was bragging about grabbing every variant cover just to resell them on eBay. He said he never even reads the story inside. Has anyone else noticed this ruining the vibe for actual readers who just want a normal copy?

Man, that's so frustrating. I've seen that same thing a few different shops and it just kills the whole vibe for people who actually love the stories. It's like these flippers treat comics like crypto or something, just grabbing any shiny cover without caring about what's inside. Really takes the fun out of browsing when you know some guy is just hoarding variants to scalp them online. Makes me feel bad for new readers too who just want a regular copy.

My buddy Steve went to Midtown Comics last month and there was a dude with a whole cart of the same Wolverine variant just talking on the phone about his eBay listings. He asked the clerk for a regular copy of the next issue and they were sold out cuz that guy bought them all.
