That $45 noise-canceling headphone case saved my favorite pair

Last month I was packing up my laptop at a busy shop downtown and accidentally knocked my headphones off the table. They hit the tile hard and I cringed, but the hard case I'd grabbed on sale took all the damage instead. The shell cracked a little but the headphones still work perfectly, so I guess spending 45 bucks was worth it. Do you all use cases for your gear or just toss it in a bag and pray?
