PSA: My neighbor in Tacoma told me his insurance doubled because of wildfire maps
We were talking over the fence last month and he showed me the new zone map from his company, saying 'they told me my house is now in a high-risk area'. It's not even a forested lot, just close to some brush. Has anyone else had their costs jump from these new climate risk models?

My buddy in Colorado got hit with the same thing last year. His premium went up 60% because his whole neighborhood got rezoned as high risk for fire. He's in a suburb, not the woods at all. The company just pointed to some new brush fire model they're using now.

But have you seen how fast those suburban fires spread now? My cousin's a firefighter and he says the new models are right, embers can travel over a mile from a brush fire and light up a roof. If the whole area is at risk, it makes sense for the price to go up for everyone.

Yeah, my insurance guy just sent me a "congrats on your new high-risk lifestyle" letter too. Sounds like @lucasjackson's friend and your neighbor are in the same sinking boat. I'm half expecting them to charge me extra because my grill is a fire hazard.
