My neighbor swore compost bins need worms, but my pile in Phoenix worked fine without them
Last spring I started a compost pile in my backyard here in Phoenix. A neighbor who gardens said I had to buy red wiggler worms for it to break down right. I almost ordered $30 worth online, but then I read that worms can't survive our 110 degree summers anyway. I just kept the pile damp and turned it every week, and after 4 months I had usable compost. Has anyone else tried hot composting in a desert climate without worms?

My compost game is strong until July hits and I remember I'm basically trying to grow a garden in a pizza oven. At least my pile is too dead to support worms too.

Ha, yeah I bet that pile turns into a literal desert by August. How much water are you having to dump on it to keep it from just drying out completely?
