TIL a 90 degree brush isn't just for tight spaces

Was cleaning out a clay flue liner in an old house off Maple Street in Portland last Tuesday. I got lazy and used the straight rod the whole way down, but I missed a ton of creosote buildup near the smoke chamber. Ended up having to redo the whole job in the rain, which added an extra 45 minutes and made a mess of my truck bed. Anybody else ever learn a lesson like that the hard way?

And once you get that soot on fabric seats it's basically never coming out, right? I learned that one the hard way too, had to buy seat covers just to cover up the stain (which honestly looked like I'd been doing something way worse than chimney work).

Yeah, a buddy of mine tried the same shortcut and ended up with soot all over his truck seats lmao.

240 miles on a gravel road and his seats were fine. He just didn't let the truck cool down before pulling into the barn.
