Rant: My chimney brush snapped in half halfway up a flue on Tuesday

I was working a job over in Oak Park when the wire just gave out, and I spent 45 minutes fishing pieces out with a magnet and a prayer. Has anyone else had a brush fail on them mid-job? What did you do?

Did you buy it at a dollar store or something?

I mean, honestly, I've been using the same brush for like six years and it's still going. I bought it at a hardware store in Chicago for maybe forty bucks. Maybe it's just me but I think if your brush snapped halfway up a flue, you were probably pushing it way too hard or using way too much torque. A little patience and a steady hand usually gets you through without that kind of drama. Idk, it sounds like you were trying to force a tough spot instead of working it slowly. I've never had a brush fail on me, and I do this kind of stuff all the time.

Six years with the same brush sounds less like skill and more like you found the one brush that refuses to retire. Maybe yours is built different, or maybe the rest of us are just buying brushes made from wet cardboard. Either way, I'll stick with my theory that some jobs just want to fight back, patience or not.
