Brick ledge repair took me 6 hours, what should have been a 2 hour job
I got called out to a house in Nashville where a brick ledge had crumbled away from the firebox. I spent 4 of those hours just trying to get the old mortar out because someone had used silicone caulk as a filler. Has anyone else run into this kind of hack repair and how did you handle it faster?

Ngl, silicone caulk on a brick ledge? That's just rude. How do people sleep at night after pulling that crap?

Man, seriously. Some people just have zero respect for the next guy. I've seen it too, silicone smeared all over a perfectly good brick ledge like it's some kind of quick fix. It's not even just rude, it's lazy. That stuff is a nightmare to remove once it cures, you practically need a chisel and a grinder. Makes you wonder if they even think about the person trying to fix their work later.
