Dollar store spices changed my mind after my aunt's visit

My aunt came over last Tuesday and saw me reaching for the $6 jar of paprika, then told me she's used the 99 cent version from the discount grocery her whole life and can't taste a difference. I grabbed a few packs of their basic seasoning blends and tried them in my chili recipe that night, honestly they worked just as well for the one meal I made. Has anyone else had luck switching to cheaper spices or do some things actually need the pricier stuff?

Try letting those cheap blends sit in your cabinet for six months, then see if they still taste like anything.
