That stat about 80% of jobs coming from networking blew my mind when a guy at the coffee shop told me last Tuesday.
I was waiting for my latte and this stranger overheard me complaining on the phone about job applications and just walked over and said that fact, then gave me his card and now I have an interview lined up next week has anyone else had a random stranger drop a career truth bomb on them out of nowhere?

That part about your brain being more open when you're down really hits home. @shane_fisher37 is right, timing is everything, you gotta start putting yourself in those low-stakes spaces more often when you're job hunting, coffee shops, bookstores, anywhere random chats happen naturally. It's less about forcing networking and more about just being visible when the universe decides to throw you a bone.

Man, that coffee shop thing is wild. I totally get that feeling though, it's crazy how a random chat can just change your whole week like that.

Oh man, the timing piece is what nobody talks about. Like, if that same chat happens when you're already having a good day it's a nice bonus, but when you're in a slump it's like you absorb every word completely different. I had a cashier at a gas station once tell me my jacket was cool, and that single five second interaction pulled me out of a two week funk because I was already feeling invisible. Your brain is just more open to those moments when you're down, you know? It's weird how the same random chat can totally miss or hit depending on your headspace.
