Got locked out and the handyman who helped me now gives DIY advice

I was fumbling with my keys after a long day when I realized the door was jammed shut. The handyman working down the hall saw me struggling and came over to check it out. He fixed the lock in minutes, and we started chatting about his past work as a furniture maker. Since then, he's shown me how to repair loose shelves and even lent me tools for small jobs. People act like you need to hire experts for everything, but sometimes help is right there if you just talk. That chance meet turned into free lessons and a reliable pal in my building. It's annoying how everyone stares at screens instead of noticing the useful folks around them. A simple hello can lead to real help and a bit of community.

Your post really hits home for me. I read a blog post about how DIY skills are dying because everyone just hires out now. Maybe it's just me, but that seems so sad. Having someone show you how to fix things builds trust and makes the building feel more like a community. I've picked up tips from neighbors too, and it's way better than watching a tutorial online. We miss out on so much by not talking to the people living right next to us.
