Remember when everyone had a knee kicker? Now I see guys trying to stretch broadloom with just a power stretcher.
It leaves ripples by the walls every time. My boss in Charlotte showed me the two-tool method back in 2005 and it's still the right way.

Just a power stretcher? That's like trying to paint a wall with a toothbrush (no offense to any toothbrush painters out there).

Oh man, that's the perfect way to put it. My buddy tried using just a power stretcher on his living room carpet last year. He said it was a total nightmare, fighting wrinkles the whole time. He ended up with a bunch of ripples after a week. Had to call a pro to redo it, which cost him way more than just renting a knee kicker too. Some jobs really do need the right tools from the start.

Actually, gotta disagree a bit here. A good power stretcher with a solid set of pins and the right technique can get it tight to the wall without ripples. The knee kicker is great for small spots and stairs, sure, but for a full room stretch, the power tool does the heavy lifting. I feel for your buddy, @sean782, but that sounds more like an install error than a tool problem. If the track isn't set right or you don't get a good bite with the stretcher head, you're gonna fight it no matter what. Seen plenty of perfect jobs done with just the power stretcher.
