My boss told me to never use a knee kicker on a direct glue-down, but I tried it on a small office job.

He was right. The adhesive grabbed the backing and bunched it up before I could get it flat. Had to pull up a whole section and re-lay it, which cost me an extra hour. Anyone have a better method for keeping tension on a glue-down in a tight corner?

Yeah, that "adhesive grabbed the backing" part is exactly it. I learned the same lesson on a hallway job last year. I ended up using a rolling pin to work the carpet into the glue from the middle out towards the wall. For a tight corner, a small, stiff putty knife lets you press it down right into the angle without pulling it out of place. Just go slow and keep the pressure even.

People make too big a deal out of that. A little bunching gets smoothed out once the glue sets. Just work it flat with your hands and move on.
