Just realized how much carpet waste ends up in landfills each year

I was reading an article from the Carpet and Rug Institute last night. It said over 4 billion pounds of old carpet gets thrown out every year in the US. That's a huge number. It got me thinking about all the rolls we cut from and the pieces we pull up. Does anyone here try to recycle the scraps or find other uses for them?

That number is staggering. Some companies will actually take back old carpet to break it down into new materials.

So they can recycle carpet but my jeans from 2008 are a lost cause?

Seriously though... how much carpet is actually getting recycled? Feels like a lot of these programs are more for show than making a real difference. I just don't buy the hype.
