A simple chalk mark habit changed how I handle berber carpets.

Spending an extra minute to mark the pile direction before cutting has completely stopped those annoying shine differences in my seams.

That crime scene investigator bit from diana_black is too real. I once spent a whole afternoon on my knees with a flashlight trying to match pile directions. Ended up with chalk all over my hands and a carpet that still looked off. My partner walked in and thought I was trying to solve a mystery. Told me I needed a magnifying glass and a trench coat. Now I just accept the shine differences, life's too short.

Guess I'll just add "crime scene investigator" to my resume now. My berber carpet gets more forensic attention than an episode of CSI, complete with chalk outlines and pile direction analysis. I mean, if I'm going this far I should probably bring a tape measure and a tiny clipboard too.
