Rant: I spent $400 on a career coach who just told me to 'follow my passion'

I was stuck in my job and thought a coach would give me a real plan. I paid for four sessions, and each time it was just vague talk about finding my joy. The last meeting, she literally said 'the money will come if you love what you do' and sent me a link to a blog post. I got zero practical steps on updating my resume or finding new roles. Has anyone found a coach who actually gives useful advice, not just feel-good quotes?

Yeah, it's like they skip the whole "how to actually get hired" part. You need someone who will look at your real skills and tell you where they fit, not just talk about dreams.

Honestly that sounds like every career coach I've ever heard of. You paid for a pep talk. The whole "follow your passion" thing is nice but it doesn't pay bills. Most of them just recycle the same basic advice you can find for free online. Maybe try looking for someone who specifically does resume workshops or has a background in your actual field next time.

Ugh, I read that's a total scam.
