Just overheard a CEO say 'everyone here is replaceable' at a coffee shop

I was grabbing a latte at Starbucks downtown and this guy in a suit was on the phone telling someone that no employee is special. Made me realize I need to focus more on building my own skills and side projects instead of just grinding for a company that sees me as a number. Has anyone else had a moment like that where a random comment changed how you see your job?

Heard my boss say the same thing once. Quit two weeks later. Best decision ever.

That Starbucks downtown near the financial district right? I used to work two blocks from there and the whole vibe is just all suits and stress. But hearing that out loud like that must have been jarring. So what did you do next, like did you start working on a side project that same day or did it take a while to actually change your habits? I'm curious if that one comment just sat in your head for a week before you really acted on it.
