Hot take: the best career advice I got this year was from a random guy at a coffee shop in Austin
I was working on a project at a cafe downtown and overheard a guy doing a video call. He said, 'I don't hire for skills, I hire for how you solve a problem I just gave you.' He was talking to a candidate and gave them a real issue from his work that day. It made me think hard about how I prep for interviews now. Has anyone else had a moment like that change how they get ready for a job talk?

Imagine being that candidate just trying to get a coffee and suddenly you're in a pop quiz for your dream job. I'd probably panic and try to solve the problem by offering him my muffin. That's a solid strategy, right? Honestly though, that hiring trick is pretty smart, but it sounds stressful as hell for the person on the spot. Makes those standard "what's your biggest weakness" questions look like a nice little vacation.
