Remember when you could just buy a tent and it worked?

I mean, I spent like 2 hours last weekend trying to figure out why my new Big Agnes tent kept sagging in the rain, even though I staked it out perfectly. Turns out the rainfly's tension adjusters were totally different from my old one and I had to re-tension them after the fabric got wet, something the quick-start guide didn't mention at all. Anyone else run into weird little setup quirks with newer gear that just wasn't a thing 10 years ago?

Feel like gear just gets more finicky every year... my old tent never needed that kind of babysitting.

Man I was just telling my buddy this exact thing last week. My 1998 Eureka Timberline was bombproof, never had to worry about seam tape or waterproof ratings. Now everything has these tiny zippers and ultralight fabrics that need special care. It's like how my parents' microwave from 1987 still works but I've replaced two smart fridges in five years. Companies keep adding features that break instead of just making the basic stuff bulletproof. My old Coleman stove from the 90s lights first try every time but my friend's fancy new jetboil needed a warranty claim after three trips. Sometimes simple is just better for the long haul.

My Big Agnes from 2015 has been flawless through tons of rain.
