Paid $4,800 for a prenuptial agreement in LA, was it worth it or a waste?
My fiance and I got a prenup done last spring with a lawyer in Santa Monica. Cost us $4,800 total for both sides. She thought it was smart, I thought it was cold. Now 8 months later we're still together and honestly I can't tell if that money bought us peace or just stress. Some friends say we dodged a bullet for later, others say the money could've gone to a honeymoon. Has anyone here actually used their prenup in a divorce or are they mostly just paper you never touch? I want real stories, not guesses.
My cousin dropped 6k on one in San Diego and they split after 3 years, never even looked at the thing. But here's the part people miss. The paper itself isn't the point. It's the conversations you have while making it that matter. You two sat down and talked about money, debt, property, what happens if things go bad. Most couples never do that until it's too late. So yeah 4,800 is a lot but you basically paid for a really hard class on your own relationship. That's not a waste. And if you never touch it? Great. That means it worked.
