Got a $500 ticket in Fresno for a cracked windshield, is the fix-it rule really that simple?
Last month I got pulled over on Blackstone Ave in Fresno and the officer wrote me up for a cracked windshield under the light obstruction rule, which was a $500 fine. I called the court and they said if I get it fixed and bring the receipt plus a signed paper from a cop, they drop it to $25. My buddy says that only works if the crack is not in the driver's view, and mine was right at the edge. Three years ago my cousin just paid the full fine because he did not know about the fix-it option at all. So is it worth fighting it if the crack was borderline, or should I just pay the $25 and move on?
My own cracked windshield sat unfixed for eight months because I kept telling myself it was just a tiny chip, and then a truck on the 99 turned it into a crack the size of a banana. Five hundred bucks stings, but twenty five with a repair receipt is honestly a steal for Fresno. The borderline spot thing does matter since the cop who signs off has to agree it is fixed, but if they already handed you the fix-it paperwork, the hard part is done. Pay the twenty five and save your fight for something that pays better.
