I thought those cable fishing magnets were a total gimmick
Saw them online for years. Figured they were just cheap junk. Then I got a job in an old building in Cleveland. Had to run a line through a finished wall with zero access. My boss handed me one, said 'trust me'. It was a Greenlee Magnepull. Cost about 60 bucks. I was ready for it to fail. But that thing pulled a pull string through a 20 foot run in under 10 minutes. No cutting, no damage. The magnet was strong enough to hold through two layers of drywall and some insulation. Totally changed how I handle those tight retrofit jobs now. Anyone else have a tool they wrote off that actually saved their butt?

Totally changed how I handle those jobs." Sounds like your boss just saved you a world of hurt.

Ever think @emmawood's boss might have learned that lesson the hard way too? Sometimes the best advice comes from someone's past mistakes, not just company rules. Makes you wonder what mess they avoided to give that tip.

Good point from the_wren, my old boss did the same thing.
