Called me crazy for using a rasp on MDF panels

Every cabinet guy I know swears by routers for rounded edges but after chipping a $200 board last Wednesday I grabbed a Nicholson #49 and it took me like 5 minutes to shape the whole edge smooth. Genuinely asking has anyone else tried hand tools on MDF or am I just making extra work for myself?

I get what you're saying about that router risk, but respectfully I see it a bit different. MDF is soft enough that a rasp will cut it fast, but it also leaves a rough furry edge that needs sanding anyway. A sharp router bit with light passes has never let me down, and the finish comes out way cleaner with no extra work. Not saying your method is wrong, just that I'd rather take my chances with the router than deal with that dusty mess a rasp makes lol.

Heard a pro say router bits last longer on MDF.

MDF dust IS a nightmare, I feel you on that. Router with light passes gives a way cleaner edge and saves you the sanding headache, totally worth the tiny bit of extra caution. Solid point about the sharp bit making all the difference too.
