Shoutout to my lawyer for catching a SSA math error from 2018

Ngl I used to just take my award letters at face value, but after a buddy told me to double check the back pay calculations, I had my lawyer look into mine. Turns out they missed 14 months of back pay from when I first applied in 2021. Has anyone else found mistakes in their SSA numbers?

Did your buddy say how they found it? A guy I know caught a SSA error that way too, they had his birth year wrong and it cut his monthly payment by like 200 bucks.

Did your buddy ever say if they had to go back and forth with them a bunch to get it fixed? I had a friend who caught something with his earnings record, and it took like three letters and a phone call before they actually fixed it. The SSA website is decent for checking your stuff, but I'd still keep paper copies of everything just in case. Seems like these little errors are more common than people think, and it's always worth double checking your own account every year or two.

Man that's wild, my uncle had something similar where they had his middle name spelled wrong for years.
