My messy weekly spread finally clicked after 9 months of trying to be tidy

Honestly, I was so against using a minimalist style because I thought it looked boring. But I saw a before and after from someone who just used a black pen and a ruler with no colors or doodles. Their old spread was cluttered like mine, and the new one was way easier to scan in the morning. I tried it for two weeks and now I actually track my habits without skipping days. Has anyone else found that less decoration actually makes them stick with their journal?

Used to stack my spreads with washi tape and stickers because I thought it made me look organized. Took me way too long to realize the clutter was just hiding the fact that I wasn't actually writing anything down. Switched to a basic grid with just dates and a black pen three months ago. Now I actually fill out my habit tracker instead of just decorating the page and forgetting to log my water intake. The boring look works because there's nothing to distract you from the actual tracking.

Honestly, I was totally the opposite. I used to think those super minimal spreads were boring and that I needed all the color to stay motivated. But reading this, I get it now. I spent last weekend decorating a whole month's layout with stickers and never wrote a single thing in it because I was too busy making it look perfect. Might have to try the boring black pen method for my daily tracker next month.
