I was at the library in Tacoma and saw a guy paying bills with cash envelopes. It looked so old school I almost laughed, but then I asked him about it.

Paying bills with cash envelopes" is my grandma's whole system (and honestly, it works for her). I tried it for a month and felt like a time traveler.

Felt like a time traveler" is exactly it, I did the same thing last year. My wallet was so stuffed with labeled envelopes I couldn't sit down right. It does make you really see where the money goes, though.

Tried it once and the bank teller looked at me like I had three heads. Had to get a money order for the rent check and it added an extra fee. The physical cash does stop you from overspending though, you can't spend an envelope that's empty.
