That time I tried to save $5 on a hostel in Barcelona and ended up sleeping on a rooftop with 12 strangers

I booked the absolute cheapest place I could find on Hostelworld and didn't read the reviews saying the 'dorm' was actually a tarp on the roof, and by 2 AM I was sharing a sleeping bag with a guy from Sweden because it got freezing cold, has anyone else accidentally ended up in a hostel that wasn't even a real building?

Learned that lesson in Prague, woke up with a guy's foot in my face.

Honestly, that reminds me of a time in a hostel in Budapest. I woke up to find some random dude using my backpack as a pillow, and @rileyb61, I swear his socks smelled like old cheese and regret. Ngl, I just grabbed my stuff and slept in the hallway for the rest of the night. Tbh, hostels are a gamble but you get some wild stories out of it.

My buddy Drew had this happen in Lisbon last year. He booked a place that was basically a converted garage with bunk beds crammed in like sardines. One night he woke up to a dude trying to climb into his bunk, and when he told him to back off the guy just mumbled something in Portuguese and passed out on the floor. The staff literally didn't care because they were just some college kids renting out their grandpa's old house. He still talks about it like it was a badge of honor though.
