Honestly, booking a flight to a bigger city nearby saved me over $300 on my trip to Portugal
I was looking at flights to Faro for a beach trip, but the prices were crazy. On a whim, I checked Lisbon instead, and the ticket was way cheaper. I just bought a $25 bus ticket from Lisbon to Faro, which took about three hours. Has anyone else found a cheaper airport nearby that made a trip work?

Oh totally, I do this all the time. Flying into Milan instead of Venice saved me a fortune last year, and the train ride was actually a nice way to see the countryside. It's wild how much prices can jump for a slightly more convenient airport. Always worth checking a map and looking at the transport links.

@the_susan how far out did you book that train from Milan?

Was totally against the idea of flying into a different city and taking a train a few years ago. Thought it was just extra hassle for no reason. Then I tried it flying into Brussels instead of Paris, saved like $200 and the train ride was so chill, actually got to see some towns I never would have visited otherwise. Definitely changed how I look at booking now.
