Refurbished rice cooker came with a surprise inside, now I'm paranoid

I picked up a $25 refurbished Zojirushi from a discount outlet in Denver last month, mostly because my old one died mid-batch on a Tuesday. When I opened the lid to clean it, there was a dried-out chunk of someone else's rice crusted into the steam vent, which honestly grossed me out more than the thought of a used appliance. Has anyone else gotten refurbished gear that clearly wasn't actually cleaned, or do I just have bad luck with the 'certified' label?

Did they even bother wiping the outside down before slapping that certified sticker on it?
