The week I swore off brick ties then changed my mind completely
Had a job in Toledo where a whole wall started walking on me because I skimped on ties, thinking the mortar would hold it. After spending 18 hours tearing it down and redoing it proper, I'll never skip a tie again. Anyone else learn a hard lesson like that on a specific job?

Jumped in on a job where the previous guy used those cheap plastic ties from a big box store. They snapped clean in half after one freeze-thaw cycle. Had to rip out an entire wall section and re-tie it with stainless steel. Ended up costing the homeowner triple what they would have paid if we just did it right the first time around.

Oh man, that's the kind of job that makes you want to cry into your coffee. I swear, the last time I tried to save a few bucks on zip ties for a retaining wall, they looked great going in and then the next heavy rain turned everything into a pile of rubble. I ended up sitting there staring at the mess, thinking "well, I guess I'm the dummy now." It's always the shortcuts that come back to bite you right in the wallet.
