Mortar mixer vs hand mixing - took a gamble on a cheap mixer and it paid off
Last month I had a 3000 brick retaining wall job in Dayton and was sick of hand mixing in a wheelbarrow. Picked up a used $150 mortar mixer off Craigslist and figured if it broke I'd be out the cash. Thing ran like a champ for the whole job and shaved off at least 5 hours of mixing time. Any of you guys ever take a chance on cheap gear and have it work out good?

Idk, that "took a gamble" part really hits home for me. I mean, pretty much every time I try to save money on a tool it ends up being junk, but maybe that's just me being unlucky. It's cool that your mixer held up for a whole 3000 brick job though, that's a big project to trust to a used Craigslist find. I feel like if you can get through a job that size without it dying, you pretty much got your money's worth right there. Maybe it's just one of those things where you get lucky if you know what to look for when you buy used.

Reminds me of a guy I knew who bought a "barely used" cement mixer that turned out to be full of hardened concrete. Sometimes you get the luck of the draw, I guess.

Life's just a game of odds disguised as decisions.
