Just realized my level was off by a quarter inch on that Wilson job

Was working on a retaining wall over on Wilson Street last Tuesday. The homeowner kept saying something looked crooked but I brushed it off. After three courses I finally checked my 4-foot level with a square and sure enough it was reading false. Someone must have dropped it on the last job. Now I gotta tear down half the wall and start over. Has anyone else had a level go bad on them like that?

My buddy Dave had a 2-foot level that was fine until he loaned it out for a weekend, came back and it was reading a good half-inch off (never found out who dropped it). He ended up tearing out a whole bathroom vanity before he caught it.

That's why I never loan out my tools anymore. Learned that lesson the hard way myself.

Hate to say it but that's just how people are these days, nobody treats borrowed stuff like it's their own. Takes one careless friend to mess up a tool you've had for years and they never even fess up to it. Funny how we learn more about people from what they break than what they say.
