Appreciation post: My new $80 mortar mixer paddle
I mean, I almost didn't buy it. I've been using the same bent up paddle on my mixer for years, just dealing with the clumps. But last week on a big foundation job, the old one finally gave out. I ran to the supply house and grabbed this new one, and man, what a difference. It mixes a full batch in half the time, and the mortar is so much smoother with zero dry pockets. I didn't think a simple tool swap could save me that much time and hassle on the wall. It's one of those things you don't know you need until you try it. Has anyone else found a basic tool upgrade that actually made your day easier?

Actually, they make those paddles for both. The grout ones are usually smaller with tighter blades, but the bigger ones for mortar have a wider spread. I mean, the box probably said right on it what it's for. If it's mixing your mortar better, then you got the right tool.

My old paddle looked like a question mark after I dropped the mixer off the tailgate. I spent more time stabbing at dry cement clumps than actually mixing. The new one feels like cheating. I got a whole extra coffee break on the last pour because it was done so fast.
