Rant: Why I stopped fighting my yard and let the wildflowers take over

I used to think a perfect lawn meant grass only, no weeds. Then I got too busy with my plumbing jobs to keep up with it. One spring, I let the dandelions and clover grow, and bees started visiting. It made me see that my neat grass was not helping any bugs or birds. Now I mix in local wildflowers, and my yard is full of life. Last fall, I even had goldfinches eating the seeds. Letting go of control made my garden way more interesting.

My neighbor's clover patch spread to my side of the fence line last year. It actually looked really nice, like a soft green carpet.

Totally! I swapped some grass for clover last year and it's so much nicer to look at than boring old turf.

Tried to fight the clover for years until my yard looked like a sad, patchy haircut. Gave up and now it's a messy mix of whatever wants to grow, which honestly is a relief. My place is basically a bug hotel and bird feeder at this point, and I'm weirdly okay with being the lazy neighbor. Letting nature do its thing saved my weekends and my pride.
