Counted 47 different volunteer tomato plants popping up in my compost pile this spring
I guess the 30 bucks worth of tomatoes I tossed in there last fall turned into a free farm, has anyone else had their compost just explode with volunteers like that?

Free farm" is right, I'd be tossing those volunteers into every empty spot in my yard.

Double down on that idea and start a tomato relay for next year. Take the biggest, healthiest volunteers and pot them up now for early transplants. Let a few of the best ones go to seed in the ground where you want them, you know, like a living seed bank. Come fall, just scatter the ripe fruits right where you want next year's patch to be. That way you're not even hauling them to the compost pile, the plants just do all the work for you. It's a lazy gardener's dream, seriously.
