Question about a book club debate that got way too heated last night

We were discussing the ending of 'The Midnight Library' and someone claimed the whole premise was just wish fulfillment without any real stakes. Another member got super defensive and said they cried reading it. I tried to suggest we agree to disagree but now two people won't talk to each other. Any tips for keeping book club discussions from turning into full arguments?

Is it too late to fake a family emergency and just not show up next month? Last time my book club got this heated we spent twenty minutes arguing about whether the main character in a thriller should have just called the cops instead.

Twenty minutes arguing about a thriller character not calling the cops? That is wild, @taylor_miller10, but it beats people crying over a book and then not talking to each other.
