Our book club picked a 900-page fantasy saga set in a fictional desert, then half the group showed up with maps of Arizona

We met at the Corner Cup in Austin last Tuesday and spent 20 minutes arguing about whether the 'Sandfall Sea' was inspired by the Chihuahuan Desert, then someone's GPS crashed trying to find the meeting room. Has anyone else had a setting so confusing your group starts fact-checking real geography instead of the plot?

Honestly, I used to roll my eyes at geography debates in fantasy, but your GPS story cracked me up and totally flipped my view. Now I’m kind of convinced half the fun is the accidental real-world treasure hunt.
