Our book club argued for hours over the main character's decision.

I think she was totally justified, even if it meant betraying her family.

Ever notice how in real life, people get called brave for finally speaking up, but the same people would have called them a problem for starting the talk earlier? It's like the book shows that messy middle part nobody likes to admit exists.

What if the family loyalty she broke was actually a cycle of silence about something really bad? Sometimes staying quiet to protect a name is its own kind of betrayal, just to different people. The cost of her staying might have been way higher than the cost of her leaving, even if we never saw it on the page. Her choice feels less about the act and more about finally stopping a pattern.
