TIL I was wrong about tube rolling sequence, and a 30 year hand from Gary taught me why
I always figured rolling tubes was just about hitting the right torque and moving on down the line, so I used to jump around the drum to save time. A guy named Gary who has been at it since '91 in Whiting, Indiana pulled me aside and said going in sequence from the center out lets the tube sheet seat even, and jumping around warps the ligaments over time. We rolled a 60 inch drum his way and the expansion readings came out dead even across all 400 tubes, which I never got doing it my way. Anyone here been taught a different sequence, or does it not matter as much on smaller drums?
