TIL a lesson about weld prep the hard way on a job in Toledo last week

I rushed the bevel on a 12-inch carbon steel pipe joint, thinking my root pass would bridge the gap, and the whole thing failed a hydro test, costing us a full day to cut out and redo.

A 12-inch pipe? Ngl, that's a huge joint to mess up on prep. The gap must have been massive for a root pass to not hold. Brutal way to lose a whole day.

My uncle's a plumber and he says 90% of his callbacks are from guys skipping the prep work on a simple copper joint. It's the same story everywhere, people think the main event will cover for a bad start. That extra ten minutes with a grinder or a file feels like a waste until you're the one losing a whole day. The foundation always matters, whether it's pipe or drywall or even just painting a room.

Ever think about the wasted water and energy for that redo, @stellaa69? That's a real cost too.
