Took me 9 hours to punch out 200 zombie tokens for Dead of Winter
I decided to make my own zombie standees instead of buying them, and punching out 200 tokens from chipboard with a cheap 1 inch hole punch took forever. My hand cramped up after the first 50, and I had to stop every 20 minutes to shake it out. My wife walked by and said "you know they sell these for $15 online, right?" I finally finished at 2am with a pile of cardboard scraps and a dull punch. Anyone have a trick for punching thick board without ruining your wrist or the tool?
Made the same mistake with a custom Catan set last winter and my thumb was numb for three days. What finally worked for me was warming the chipboard first, like sitting on it or hitting it with a hair dryer for a minute, because cold board fights you the whole way. Also flip the punch over and whack the back with a rubber mallet instead of squeezing it by hand, sounds dumb but it saves your wrist big time. And yeah, swap in a fresh punch every 40 or 50 hits, a dull one is what really wrecks you. My wife said the exact same thing about buying them and I still didn't listen, so at least you're in good company.
