Rant: I started teaching my 7th grade class a board game club and it's a total mess

The problem was getting 30 kids to learn a new game in one 45-minute period. I tried just reading the rules out loud and it was chaos. Has anyone found a better way to teach a group that big, or is it a lost cause?

It's the same problem everywhere, nobody reads instructions anymore.

Read somewhere that trying to teach the whole group at once is a recipe for disaster. The advice was to pick one simple game, like Sushi Go, and teach just a few kids first. Get them playing at a demo table while the others watch or do something else. Then those kids can teach the next small group. It turns the students into teachers and stops you from having to yell over a crowd. Might take a session or two to get rolling, but it builds a system.
