That $200 anvil I bought off Craigslist turned out to be a cast iron garden ornament
The guy swore it was forged steel but it chipped on the first hit and now it's a doorstop in my shop. Anyone else get burned buying used gear from random online listings?

My brother once bought a "vintage Craftsman bandsaw" off some guy's lawn for 60 bucks. Got it home, plugged it in, and the motor just smoked and died after about three seconds. Turned out the wiring was all chewed up from mice and the guy had just spray-painted over the rust... we ended up spending more on rewiring it than a new one would've cost. Still makes me chuckle when I see that thing sitting in the corner of his garage, just taking up space.

Wait... they spray-painted over rust and didn't even bother to check the wiring? That's wild. I've seen some sketchy flips in my time but that's next level. Did he at least try to haggle the guy down when he saw the paint job looking a little too fresh? Sounds like that thing's gonna be a garage ornament forever.
