Unpopular opinion: The Wire is way too slow for a binge watch

I kept hearing how it's the greatest show ever. I gave it 6 episodes and I just couldn't get into it. Everyone says the payoff comes later but I don't have 10 hours to wait for something to happen. Has anyone else just not liked a hugely popular show?

See, I used to think people just weren't giving it enough time... but I tried watching it during a long weekend and had to give up after the third episode. It's just a lot of standing around and talking about nothing happening, and I felt like I was missing something but I really wasn't. Changed my mind completely on that one, some shows just aren't for everyone no matter how popular they get.

6 episodes is basically a whole season of normal TV, sounds like you gave it a fair shot. Guess the "slow burn" is more like watching paint dry in Baltimore.

Three episodes in and @elliot_johnson31 still didn't catch a plot, so what exactly is the show's hook supposed to be by that point?
