That tip about checking the bottom shelf changed my whole garage sale game
Last Saturday at the Elkhart flea market, some older lady I'd never met saw me walk past a table and said, 'Boy, you're missing the good stuff down there.' I crouched down and found a full set of vintage Stanley chisels in a beat-up wooden box for $15. The handles are cracked but the steel is perfect, and one of the edge tools alone goes for 40 bucks on eBay. Has anyone else gotten a random stranger's tip that actually panned out?

Man, that lady deserves a free coffee or something for saving your wallet from a lifetime of overpaying. My version of this is way less lucky: some guy at a yard sale told me to check the bottom of a box of old VHS tapes because there might be a hidden gem under them. Turns out the gem was a half-eaten granola bar and a dead spider, so I basically paid $2 for a sticky mess and a heart attack. Still, your Stanley find is proof that those random old-timers are secretly running the whole resale network. Now I crouch down at every table like I'm doing squats for cash, just hoping someone else will drop a hint my way. Most times I just find dust, but the one time it works out, it'll be worth the dusty knees.
