That garage sale guy who refused to sell me the lamp for 3 months

Ngl, I still think about this older dude from a moving sale in Portland last fall. He had this brass floor lamp marked at $15, but when I asked if he'd take $10, he said no and told me to come back in 3 months if I really wanted it. I laughed it off, but I actually drove by that same house every few weeks for other sales in the area, and that lamp was still sitting on his porch every single time. Finally, in December, I knocked and he just handed it to me for $8, saying, "You're the only one patient enough to earn it." Has anyone else had a seller play a weird long game like that, or was this guy just messing with me?

That story about earning the lamp reminds me of a guy at a flea market who kept this old clock in his booth for months, and every time I asked about it he'd just say it was spoken for. Finally he told me he was waiting to see if I'd come back for it, since so many people ask and wander off. He sold it to me for the original price, but he threw in a free set of wind-up toys that were probably worth more than the clock.
