Finally compared Goodwill to Habitat for Humanity Restore in Phoenix, not even close

Needed a desk for my home office and hit up three Goodwills near me in Phoenix. Picked up beat up pressboard stuff for $40-60 each, not great. On a whim drove to the Habitat Restore on 27th Ave and found a solid oak desk from the 80s, real wood, for $35. Has a few scratches but nothing a little sanding can't fix. Why do people even bother with Goodwill furniture when Restore exists? Has anyone else noticed this difference in your town?

The Habitat Restore on 27th Ave is a hidden gem for sure. I snagged a solid wood bookshelf from that same location last spring for $25, and it's still going strong after a good wipe down. My rule these days is to only buy furniture from Goodwill if it's a small item like a lamp or dishes. For big stuff like desks and dressers, Restore is where I head first, hands down. You're right that the pressboard furniture at Goodwill just doesn't hold up the way real wood does.

Found an antique sewing machine at a Restore once. Still works too.
