Watched my neighbor's zucchini plants take over his whole backyard last July

I was over at Mike's place in Boise for a bbq and saw he had 8 zucchini plants crammed into a 4x8 bed. Three of them were literally smothering the tomatoes next to them and he was giving away squashes to everyone who walked by. Has anyone else had to rip out half their zucchini plants midseason because you just can't keep up with them?

Did you end up ripping them out or just let them go crazy? I made that same mistake two years ago in Spokane and by August I couldn't even walk through my garden path without tripping over zucchini vines. @ryan369 is right about pumpkins being aggressive too, but at least those you can leave on the porch for decoration after Halloween. I finally just started donating bags of squash to the local food bank because my neighbors started locking their doors when they saw me coming with another one.

Eh eight plants in one bed is rookie stuff, just eat more squash.

Grow some pumpkins next time if you want real volume.
