Was skeptical about companion planting for years.
Honestly, I thought planting marigolds next to my tomatoes was just some old wives' tale, but after a massive aphid outbreak wiped out my neighbor's crop and left mine untouched, I'm a full believer now. Has anyone else had a weird success story with a gardening tip they initially wrote off?

I actually read a study from a university extension office that tested marigolds and found they do release a compound that repels some root nematodes. So @reeseperez I get what you're saying about correlation, but there's some actual science backing it up too.

The marigolds saved your whole crop while your neighbor lost everything?

Nah you gotta look at the whole picture. Correlation isn't causation here. Marigolds are just flowers, they're not some magical pest shield. Your neighbor probably had worse soil or different watering habits or just bad luck.
