Serious question, has anyone else hiked the full 18-mile loop in the Gila Wilderness lately?
I was out there last month and the trail markings on the Middle Fork section were pretty much gone, washed out or something. Made route finding a real chore for about three miles. How are conditions on the other forks now, or should I just plan to bring a GPS next time?

Oh man, the trail markers in that section are basically a myth at this point (like a forest ghost story). I spent half an hour just staring at a creek bank, trying to guess which pile of rocks was the "trail." A GPS isn't a suggestion anymore, it's a required piece of gear, right up there with water. Honestly, my next trip there I'm just bringing a ball of string to unwind behind me.

Nah, getting lost is half the fun though. Makes it feel like a real adventure, not just a walk.
